Apple Picking

I had the best day. I feel quite tired, so I'll just post a picture to commemorate such a great day with my 2 favorite people. We had a wonderful day, just us...

My life lately...

...as of today, I am 29 weeks pregnant. Which means, baby is about 2.5 pounds -- and my belly is...growing rapidly, to say the least. Which also means, more pressure on that darn sciatic nerve, which is basically my main complaint besides feeling extremely tired. I'm quite excited to finally meet this babe, and be a family of 4! Hard to believe.

...today I had my THIRD root canal. oh joy. I'm wicked hungry, but my mouth is still very frozen, so...I will try to wait a little longer to indulge my appetite. Which is hard to satisfy these days.

...involves frequent trips to the bathroom. Which is serving 2 purposes in the night-time, at least: emptying my own bladder, and...waking my 3 and a half year old to encourage him to stop peeing in his diaper. He's been potty-trained for over a year, and still pees and often poops, in his diaper. We are working very hard at it, though. Every morning, he either is excited that he didn't poop, or he hangs his head and says "oh no...not again..." Poor little fella. He's trying, though. So - hopefully by the time baby #2 arrives, we will only have a newborn in diapers...we shall see.

...we started a small group at our house. We've been part of the same small group with people from our church for 5 years, and decided that this year it was time...so...lastnight was our second time meeting...and it was great! We're studying the book of James...and even though most of the people in the group are actually friends of ours...I realize, in the discussion about trials...how difficult it really is to be really vulnerable in sharing personally about trials. That will come, I'm sure, but...still. It was great. Nice to not have to head OUT on a rainy Monday night.

...I dyed my hair yesterday. Its quite dark, actually. Jason doesn't think it looks much different, but...Jonah assures me its 'boot-iful', little darlin'.

...I'm enjoying reading these days...mostly just mindless silly novels, but...still - something I'm enjoying, along-side all the TV shows I am loving these days. And fall knitting has started, too, to make me feel even just a tiny bit more productive as I sit on my butt and watch TV...

...I am dreaming of selling all we own, to travel the world, and see and take pictures of beautiful things. Feeling like I want to get away before this babe arrives, but knowing the furthest we can get ourselves is Nova Scotia -- mostly thanks to the free ferry pass I won awhile back from our local radio station. So...trying to be thankful that we can even get ourselves that far. Hopefully in the next few weeks...

...I really should put myself down for a nap. I work tonight, and know I will regret not having even a tiny little snooze before heading out when Jay gets home from work. So...I sign off.

...oh -- and I almost forgot: I bought croissant glazed doughnuts this morning from the Superstore....you cannot believe how delicious these things are. Once this freezing wears off, I will be devouring one of those sweet treats. For the baby, of course.

Fall

I've been a little sad saying good-bye to summer, especially since it seems like it was extra-short this year! But -- I do love Fall, and September has been super nice, so...I guess I can officially say...it is time I finally clean my car of all its beach gear and extra clothes and towels...and accept the fact that we likely will NOT be swimming again 'til next summer.

We took Jonah to see his first movie in the theatre this morning. He's been talking about seeing a movie on the 'big screen' ever since I explained to him what it was about a month ago. He still is a little sensitive to 'scary' parts in movies, so we figured The Wiggles would be a good choice (for him!) for a first movie. A little annoying, yes, but...not scary in the least! (for a 3 year old anyways. for us, however...yikes.) Anyways. It was almost an hour and a half long, and...I think all 3 of us would have been satisfied after 45 minutes, but...we stuck it out 'til the very end, then headed into town to experience some of our outdoor Farm Market. We were a little nostalgic of NYC, walking around downtown this morning, with face-painting and balloon-twisting and yummy smelling varieties of food to buy on the street...it was nice. And much less crowded than NYC, that's for sure. I got a hair cut, and now the boys are both napping, and...I am about to join them once I hit 'publish post'...
Here's a few pics, though, before I sign off...

And a not-so-flattering picture of my belly (for you, Ang.)

Almost 28 weeks along. I know. I'm huge. People seem to feel free to tell me that, too. But...whatever, there's a human being inside me.

Life as we know it...

...is changing...today is the first day of kindergarten for 5 year-olds, and back-to-school for all other kids. Its almost like I think I'm exempt - like it doesn't change MY life, because I think I have oh-so-much time before it will affect me...Its called 'denial', I think. I have two years left with Jonah before I have to 'send him off' to school. I am not completely fooled, however: I know time flies. I'm reminded of this often. And even in this current chapter we are in...it will be very, very different, in just a few more, short months.

Life with 'just one' will be no more...the reality of having 2 children is beginning - just barely, but still: beginning to sink in. I had a doctor's appointment this morning, and there was a new mom with an 8-week old little boy in there. Its like it hit me: I will have one of those in just a few more months. We've been in such a care-free (in some ways) stage of life this summer, going to the beach whenever we want, skipping naps, later bed-times, un-healthy lunches, because...we can. Jonah is so adaptable, and so ready for any and every new 'adventure' we present to him. He's easy, for the most part. So much fun and up for anything...I get nervous about thinking about having a newborn again - the sleep deprivation, the schedule of naptimes and feeding times, and changing diapers every hour...yikes. I'm very excited, don't you worry...just...a little apprehensive about how it will all change...'life as we know it.'

I sort of love, sort of hate change. The good things in my life, I don't ever want to change. The not-so-good things...I am constantly trying to find ways of manipulating to bring about change. Uncertainty makes me a little nervous. I'm not a super-organized person who can't adapt, but...I like to feel safe, to have a little bit of an idea of what's up. Already I feel out of the loop sometimes, if I miss out on things...what on earth am I gonna do when I have a newborn AND a toddler to contend with when making choices about socializing vs. family...

Anyways. I know I'm not the first to feel this way. I know I will adapt, as everyone does...but...still. just some thoughts.

We had an awesome weekend, camping, going to the beach...just soaking up those last days of summer. And even though school doesn't neccessarily affect ME...it still marks the end of summer, the beginning of Fall...and while Fall IS my favorite season...I still feel sentimental about leaving summer behind. We got such a late start, i guess...but, its definetely been an amazing summer...and there's something 'safe' about starting a new season, knowing with it will come some sense of routine and 'normalcy'...and Fall cooking and baking. And apple picking. And making pickles (hopefully!) and hopefully some grocery-shopping. I've neglected that much of the summer, just picking things up here and there, so i can get in as much of our beautiful beaches and nice weather as possible. But. Its time. I have GOT to get organized.

Rambling a little to much here, even for my liking...

Good-bye.

My boy can sing!

One of the many things I love about my kid is how he loves to sing - how he loves to worship, and dance, and sing a worship song, right on key - whether or not he's sung it a hundred times, or singing it for the first time.

Tonight, Erin, Jonah, and I met up with Amanda and Silas for a worship evening outdoors at Victoria Park...and while Jonah did eventually get distracted with his friends (20-something boys who go to our church who have mutual adoration for each other!) and their i-phones...the first few songs, he was singing his little heart out. Its hard to not cry - and laugh, for that matter - at the soul this little fella has, and his inhibitions of singing loudly, even though he doesn't know the words...I love it. I wonder when we lose that ability to just 'let loose' and sing and worship unaware of those around us. What a great quality! I'm so happy to raise this little boy, and to be influenced by HIM just as much as he is influenced by US...

I see Jesus in him, and I pray often, and will continue to pray that God will always use him to bring joy to others, and show God's love to the people around him. I'm blessed to experience answers to those prayers on a daily basis...what a gift.

sunshine makes me happy

...and because sunshine makes me happy...I have to admit, when the weather is dark and gray...that's how I feel, too. I could not survive in Alaska, that's for sure. Though I spent a summer there, in the 'sunny-24-hours-a-day-weather'...and LOVED it...I could not survive the winter months, I'm quite certain!! The sun has been shining here for almost 2 weeks now, and I feel like I've just been soaking it up, enjoying every little bit of it -- but today has been gloomy and rainy (though the sun is BEGINNING to shine a little bit as I type)...and I feel...bored. sad. lonely. gray. and gloomy. why is that? I barely can even let myself utter those words, because in my heart, I know I have MUCH to be thankful for and MANY blessings to count. For instance, the happy little 3 year old doing 'crafts' at the table beside me, making something, of his own initiative for Erin's new apartment. What a dear. I spend so much time with him, I think we really ARE best friends. He keeps saying "you happy? are you happy, Mama?" I can't hide a thing from this kid. I love that about him. He's very observant and sensitive to the world around him. I can't even effectively verbalize how I feel, but...as I TRY to see the world through his eyes, even as I am writing this...I am reminded that at least our little 4 walls in this sometimes gray and gloomy world...that inside, its a happy place. Or it should be. So. "Grow up", I say to myself...there are plenty WORSE things that could be happening in my life besides a kind of gray and gloomy day. Life is good.

And. wouldn't ya know? - the sun is now shining. like a slap in my face.

Beaches, babies, burns, blessings, birthdays

I am LOVING how much we've been able to go to the beach the past week or so. I don't know why on earth it took so LONG to have hot weather, but...we are taking full advantage of it and heading to the beach every chance we get! We are soooo blessed to be so close to so many, many beaches...my absolute FAVORITE beach is Canoe Cove, which happens to be less than 10 minutes from our house. Jonah calls it 'our beach', quite appropriately, I think. And he is a beach BUM, let me tell ya. An Island boy through and through. Just loves hunting for hermit crabs (which are VERY bountiful!) and swimming in his little turtle tube...way over his head, mind you. so much fun. Not quite as RELAXING as one might wish for, but...so delightful watching him have fun. And this kid has FUN, no matter what he does. Sometimes we wish we could take him to more 'fun' events, but...they all seem to COST so much freakin' cash...and he's just as happy to be at a FREE beach...or playing on his slip-n-slide...or swinging on his swings. A very easy please, thankfully. And I am trying to remember to put sunscreen on my very easily burned skin. I'm STILL peeling from a day at the beach with Amanda over 3 weeks ago. And while the color of my skin is improving...I'm not feeling especially pretty having the skin scaling OFF my still quite-white legs...Jonah is the brownest of us all. Jay is quite close, though - and considering he is in a vehicle most of his days, he's still impressively brown with his beautiful Guam-y skin. I do love that man.

Jonah talks about the baby all the time. Its so sweet hearing the things he says about 'her' -- he's quite convinced the baby will be a baby sister. There's not much convincing him otherwise. We shall see if he's right. It'll be a surprise...4 months from yesterday is my due date. Time is flying. I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable. All my references to how much I LOVED being pregnant before...Jason thinks I'm just NOW remembering the discomfort...but...I still love being pregnant. Love what these 9 months of being a little uncomfortable will bring me...I still can hardly believe the incredible answer to prayer and anticipation of getting to mother another child...what a huge, huge blessing. I can't wait!! I'm starting to have sciatic pain again in my back and through my...."mothering region", but...am hopeful it won't be as bad as it was with jonah. We shall see.

We've been celebrating Jay's birthday pretty much all weekend long. A nice dinner with my little sister and her boyfriend (yep -- its true!!) and some FREE cheesecake because it was Jay's birthday (another reason why Swiss Chalet remains my favorite!!) -- just fun to be with people who love you and who you love, celebrating birthdays. Birthdays are an EVENT with our family. I love it. We went to the beach (of course!) yesterday with a bunch of family and it was....the most beautiful beach day...the WAVES were awesome, and it was so beautiful and warm and lovely. And Jason and I went on a DATE lastnight (thank you Erin for loving our kid while we were gone!) - to a concert of two different girls we LOVE, part of our PEI Jazz and Blues Festival...it was AMAZING. I wanted to be a singer/songwriter and be up there singing with both of them.

Which is probably partly why I agreed to a last-minute invite to help lead worship at church this morning. I loved it. I forget sometimes how much I love to sing. There is oodles of talented musicians in our church, so I often don't feel like I need to participate. But - I loved singing this morning, and with such a happy easy-going worship leader standing beside me. Not my husband in this case, but...a friend anyways...it was fun.

Anyways. I'm rambling. And the night is not done yet. I have a few more hours to celebrate Jason's birthday before life returns to 'normal' tomorrow morning, and he goes back to work, and is an official 35 year old. I love birthdays. I love my family and friends, and love our local Pizza Delight for giving us such a yummy supper, and giving Jay a free meal, and not charging jonah because "he's so little" (I won't tell them how many piece of pizza he ate!!)

ANNNNNNDDDD...Erin just dropped off some delicious-looking pieces of CHEESECAKE from my dear girl, Amanda...even though I didn't make it to her party. You rock, Amanda. I can't wait to bite into THAT!!! You're awesome. Thank you.

And we are about to sit ourselves down and start the second season of Community...a very hilarious show we have FINALLY taken the advice of SEVERAL people and started watching. Worth it. So funny.

I just feel happy.
