My boysies have all been sick with colds the last week or so...poor little darlin's. Jonah is not really affected in visible ways, except he has this awful cough -- he still has *almost* as much energy -- but he's been napping during the day most days, which isn't quite as normal anymore these days...but it seems to be all he needs to make it through the day -- and other than coughing, his sleeping seems to be fairly normal.
Levi, on the other hand. That kid has been a great sleeper, anyway, for a long time now...but he seems to really NEED sleep...especially when he's sick. The past 3 or 4 days, he's woken up anywhere from 10:00 - 11:30 -- from going to bed the night before around 7:00...AND sleeping for 3-4 hours in the afternoon...sooo so sleepy, this babe....I've kinda missed him the last few days, honestly, as I've only really even SEEN him for a few hours in a day! He hasn't been eating as much, hasn't been his usual happy self -- crying more easily...not drinking as much milk...which is odd, in and of itself, as he is a milk guzzler every other day! But I am hoping all this extra sleep will be helping him fight this bug -- good time to have him sleeping extra, when the time just changed!! I'd love it if his big brother started sleeping in 'til 8:00 instead of 7:00 -- that would be dreamy....

Sunny disposition
Ha!
That's what I wish I had. And in some ways, I suppose I do...I don't go griping to every single person who has ears...not that those ears want to hear my stories anyways, but -- for the few who DO...they know I don't possess that 'sunny disposition' I appear to have to some others who don't know the 'whole story.' There's been some relationships in recent past that have 'come to a head' - the real truth has been told of what they think of our character. Not MINE in particular, and not even my husband's, per se - but 'not personal' attacks and criticisms of 'the elders' - when your husband is one of FOUR elders - and when you and your husband are two individuals with one heart, really...it becomes quite personal, thank you very much. Perhaps not to you - but...it is quite personal to me.
And therefore - the 'sunny disposition' you may THINK I have...is exposed for what it is: a fierce loyalty and love and respect for the man I love - and the claws come out when you attack him...when you question the integrity and leadership of someone I live with - and therefore know much better than anyone...when you think you have the RIGHT to beat him up and criticize him and the others he stands with in this role of 'elder' - that he did not ASK for, by the way - he does not get one cent for - even though he has spent countless hours over the months and years he's been in this un-paid position...and though I have seen and read the criticisms and attacks and questioning - I have stood there and WATCHED people yelling and pointing fingers directly in their faces -- in Jason's face -- I have heard the mean words and untrue accusations...and seen the gracious response and composure of every single one of those men, who have never retaliated, never responded in anger or unkindness even while their character and ability has been PUBLICLY questioned...so...yeah - my 'sunny disposition' is quite deeply buried these days...
I can't pretend that everything is 'fine' like I normally am able to do...not when I walk into CHURCH week after week, trying to supress my anxiety and insecurity - so I can worship, so I can learn more about Jesus - be drawn into His presence, even though sitting behind me, in front of me, beside me...are people who I have seen the 'ugly', all the while they are the ones lifting their hands in worship, their smiles plastered on their faces, giving warm and loving hugs to others that were once shared with me...telling others of the 'hurt' they experience, the words of love for God and the church they have...while I know another side of these people...its hard to not judge - its hard to not question THEIR character and integrity - and to fight the urge to expose them
...but...for what? What good would it do? Do we defend our husbands, our families, ourselves - and expect that everyone will take our side if we expose the truth?? Do we not all have our own 'versions' of the truth, anyways? We believe what we want to - we see only what we want to...we cannot change anyone else's mind, anyways....so - what's the point, honestly?? Its not the preferences and differences that I'm bothered by, anyways - in and of themselves, the differences of opinions aren't the real issue here, in my opinion...its what's come out of these differences that has been most revealing...unkind words and criticisms and judgments that are wrong, ungodly, unkind...and not what I want to be associated with anymore.
There does come a time to leave that which is dragging you down - to stop 'fighting' for the truth - to stop waiting for it to all unfold...and to stop attempting to hold something together which is out of your control. But with that comes some sadness, too...saying good-bye is never easy - leaving one thing to go to another, unknown thing...for reasons that could have and should have been avoided...seems so crazy...and so familiar. Starting over is not easy. But when God is finally giving release and leading and redeeming and showing you He is still in control - He is still good...you have to trust Him...even when the steps ahead seem unclear and uncertain...knowing His character makes me know He can be trusted...so why would I not follow??
He's been more and more real to me in these months, and recent weeks especially, as I cling to Him and read His Word and see His deep, deep love for me...as I am both reminded and shown anew truths from the Bible that are a practical help and comfort for me...as I choose to see His blessings and goodness, I realize more and more the hugeness of His gifts and blessings...and the 'compare and contrast' analogy makes me count my deep and true relationships as even greater and more appreciated than when I sometimes just carry on as if 'all is well'...its in the difficult times when people show up and just love without judgment - listen while knowing your heart, and love and show kindness, that you know you don't need 'everyone'...you already have what you need...and Jesus...HE really is 'more than enough'...but He goes beyond just giving you Himself...and gives you people - extensions of His heart, to love you and hug you and bless you in tangible, practical, emotional, spiritual ways...
I am blessed. He is so good...He is redeeming my heart in this hurt - restoring something that has been lost in me for awhile - as He speaks truth and we listen to His voice above all the noise of other voices seeking to tear down...reminding me of the importance of walking by faith and not by sight...of trusting His heart, of counting my blessings, of planting His Word in my heart. Of knowing I am, indeed...loved. I feel His peace as He leads us each day...not all days have a 'sunny disposition', but...He is certainly shining His light on my soul and on my heart these days...and I'm grateful for that...even amidst pain and confusion and injustice...He restores my soul.

14 Months
*this is for my records, not overly exciting for any outside readers, just so ya know...*
I look at this little babe, and though it feels like he's always been a part of our lives...it seems insanely ridiculous to think he is 14 months old -- will we ever have a sense of reality of time where our babies are concerned? Will time ever be slow enough?
This boy is a little cuddle bug...very very busy, but does love to sit and cuddle almost anytime you're willing to hold him! He is mildly obsessed with books these days - always bringing them over to you to read - or climbing into his little black chair - or anywhere, for that matter -- to look at his books! I wouldn't say he's 'laid back' - very happy and content, but not 'laid back'. He pretty much entertains himself, and is really a pretty easy baby. He's a great sleep - sleeps 12-14 hours at night (I know, that sounds crazy!) - and naps about 3 hours - usually one nap, unless he wakes up too early then I put him for two naps. Lately he's been waking up close to 10:00 on a lot of mornings - perhaps a growth spurt?? This babe was almost 20 pounds last time he was weighed (about a month ago) - finally back on the 'growth chart' - almost up to the 10th percentile. I don't actually care about that anymore - his doctor was a little concerned for awhile, but -- he's healthy. Just small. He's very persistent - intense - focused. Not sure of the exact word, but -- very difficult to distract. If he has his mind set on something (a certain toy, what he wants/doesn't want to eat, going up the stairs), he puts up a good fight/cry...but we are trying to stay strong and let him know who's boss! :) He loves to sing - and dance! He loves the piano. He is a milk-guzzler - the kid is intense, to say the least, when he is drinking his milk from his sippy cup...very focused! He's a decent eater - not overly picky, just...easily bored, I guess. The more ethnic and flavorful, the better...meat and potatoes doesn't really seem to be his thing! He throws his cup constantly - and it drives me crazy! If we tap his hand or speak firmly to him...he turns his head away and refuses to look at us - his lip quivers...and he often works himself up into a frenzy - a very sensitive little heart. He adores Jonah -- no-one can make him laugh like Jonah can! He is walking everywhere these days -- its just really started the last few weeks - and he seemed to catch on really quickly! Super cute. He hates hats -- I don't think he's worn one on his head for longer than 2 minutes at any given time. He always pulls it off. He doesn't play outside much - too cold. But he does love to be outdoors! He's great in the car -- we moved him into the next phase of car seats a few weeks ago - he can see more now, and is even that much happier to be in the car. He's generally pretty quiet - just happy and content. But he's not quite the 'charmer' his brother was at his age -- he doesn't just give his smiles and cuddles to just anyone! He is a real fan of Mammie these days - as soon as he sees her, he reaches to her. And he hates when anyone leaves - always reaches out and cries, trying to cling to whoever happened to be holding him. He's quite a fan of Aunt Erin, too - and Danny -- Danny makes him work a little harder for his affections, but he's not giving up! Like I mentioned earlier...'persistent.'! He's quite into playing with Jonah's mini hockey sticks lately - always holding one or two and hitting the ball (or any other toy) around - and loves playing with the big ball, too, rolling it back and forth. He hates socks - I basically don't put them on him anymore unless its absolutely freezing, or we're going out somewhere. He just pulls them off anyways! He loves bread. We sometimes hide it if there's something else we're trying to get him to eat, 'cause once he spots the bread, he doesn't want to eat anything else. He seems to have some issues with certain textures when eating - I tried to give him boiled egg yesterday, and he just opens his mouth and lets it slide off his tongue - not having it!!!
This is Levi in a nut-shell. I remember in those beginning weeks that he was alive, wondering if I would connect with him the way I did with Jonah. It took a little longer than I had expected, but...this little boy has just crawled right into our hearts -- we all adore him - he is a little tease, just a funny, sweet, cuddly, busy, darling little boy...I thank God for him every single day - remembering what a huge answer to so many prayers he is. And I love watching these two little brothers - what a gift!
Happy 14 months, Levi Wilson. You make me a happy little Mama, indeed.

When people 'get you'
I'm increasingly realizing the gift of friendships and conversations with people who just 'get me'...when I don't have to 'defend' my point of view, my character, my choices...and the ease that comes with relationships of true depth and loyalty and understanding. When many of my relationships seem strained or uncertain right now...the ones that are still just as true and safe and secure...are causing me to be even more aware of the joy and blessing of true friendship...I do have much love in my life...I used to think everybody loved me...a foolish thought, for sure...but I wasn't aware of any reasons to doubt that. Until I was...and life has never been the same for me since. But I don't NEED everybody to love me. I know that. But I am so incredibly grateful for those who do...the list seems to be getting smaller...but I do have to ask: did they really love me??? Not that true friendships are without their hurts and misunderstandings...I know that THAT is certainly not true...perhaps the opposite, in fact...the ones you love the most often HURT you the most...there's some safety in that, too, honestly. My most difficult relationships, are the ones that matter the most...which is why when I'm hurt, it hurts deeper than hurt from someone who doesn't matter quite as much. My Mom reminded me that all the people causing such stress and hurt and frustration right now in my life...won't always be in my life...to remember that the people who really, truly LOVE me...will continue to do so...
And, its the figuring out of who they are and aren't...that is difficult sometimes.
But, to those who love me...and let me love them...I am grateful.
I live in a home full of love...I look 3 feet over beside me....and am blessed by this man of integrity and godliness...who, despite many odds...is still fighting to keep our church together...and still leading it with other men, despite personal attack and criticism and judgement...If it were up to me...he would have given up by now. But he is striving to serve HIM and lift up HIM in this role...and will do so until God makes it clear to him he is released from his position. I love him...so much so, I am quite certain I couldn't even breathe without him...he is such a part of who I am...my very heart and soul. I'm honored to be his wife, to journey this life with him...and, he is still...after all these years...my favorite person to be with...the only one I could ever imagine living my life with...and knowing, without doubt, that I am loved by him...he adores me, he needs me, and he's my biggest fan...well...he's not ALL I have, but...if he was...I'd still be grateful it was him. I love that guy. The only Valentine I'd ever want.

What God's teaching me right now...like RIGHT NOW....
I've been reading Francis Chan's "Crazy Love"...and I am loving it. If I can allow the truths spoken in his book to really speak to my heart...I feel my life would dramatically change....I'm hoping I will allow HIS truth to change me...slowly or quickly...I want my life to truly, truly be...all about Him.
So...there's been major struggles in my heart over the last number of months, especially...mostly where church is concerned -- relationships, focus, the heartbeat of our church...and how all this 'stuff' is causing me so much anxiety - so much worry and stress...I actually think I could be getting an ulcer.
And I read this morning:
"I used to believe that in this world there are two kinds of people: natural worriers and naturally joyful people. I couldn't really help it that I was the worrying kind. I'm a problem solver, so I have to focus on things that need fixing. God can see that my intensity and anxiety are ministry related. I worry because I take His work seriously.
Right?
But then there's that perplexing command: "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Phil. 4:4). You'll notice that it doesn't end with "...unless you're doing something extremely important." No, it's a command for all of us, and it follows with the charge, "Do not be anxious about anything" (v.6)
That came as a pretty staggering realization. But what I realized next was even more staggering.
When I am consumed by my problems - stressed out about my life, my fammily, and my job - I actually convey the belief that I think the circumstances are more important than God's command to always rejoice. in other words, that I have a 'right' to disobey God because of the magnitude of my responsibilities.
Worry implies that we don't quite trust that God is big enough, powerful enough, or loving enough to take care of what's happening in our lives.
Stress says that the things we are involved in are important enough to merit our impatience, our lack of grace toward others, or our tight grip of control.
Basically, these two behaviors communicate that it's okay to sin and not trust God because the stuff in my life is somehow exceptional. Both worry and stress reek of arrogance."
So. I am surrenduring this worry and stress to Him...nothing is worth robbing me of my joy in Him...in trusting Him, and remembering He is in control.
Please, when you think of me -- pray for me -- for our church...that we would truly turn our eyes to Him...surrender to Him.

Snow Day
I love a snow day! Even if I would normally be home, anyways -- it just feels so much more exciting knowing many other people are, too!! It was a good day!
- I made chelsea buns (that are delish, by the way!)...My Mom made chelsea buns on the weekend -- and I tend to copy her ideas alot!...
- the boys (mostly!) played happily together -- mini stick hockey is the favorite game these days!...I love watching them play
- I got a bit of cleaning done
- good conversation with my Momma - hearing her perspective on our church stuff...her wisdom and grace always astounds me
- Jonah and Levi BOTH had nice long naps
- I got a bit of reading done (hard to do for a hard-to-concentrate reader like myself when the boysies are both up...)
- a little bit of journaling
- Jay got home early and we had delish coffee together in the middle of the afternoon
- Jason made home-made corn tortillas AND cleaned up after dinner!
- Boys in bed at 7:00, and a nice quiet, no-agenda evening together. bliss.
